The firm’s London office was recognized for its broad scope of pro bono initiatives.

Law.com International has named Latham to its top 10 list of “Best Law Firms for Pro Bono in the UK,” citing several initiatives undertaken by our London office. Firms were evaluated by their total number of pro bono hours in addition to the percentage of each firm’s lawyers working on pro bono matters. Over 80% of lawyers in our London office contributed to pro bono matters over the last financial year.

Highlights from our London office include:

  • Helping to found, and continuing to participate in, the Domestic Abuse Response Alliance (DARA), a coalition of law firms in the UK that offers pro bono legal advice and representation to survivors of domestic abuse in need of protective injunctions.
  • Contributing to the exoneration of Andrew Malkinson, who had been wrongly convicted and served 17 years in prison. Mr. Malkinson’s exoneration has led to a review by the UK body which investigates potential miscarriages of justice.
  • Advising Cancer Research UK, the world’s largest independent cancer research organization, in connection with their corporate legal needs.

“We applaud all of the firms recognized for their dedication to pro bono service, and are honored to be listed among them,” said Laura Atkinson-Hope, Public Service Counsel, Director of Global Pro Bono. “Giving back to the communities where we live and work is central to our firm’s culture, and we are proud of the dedication from our lawyers and staff who donate their time to participate in pro bono work.”
