Asian Legal Business has named Hong Kong partner Simon Hawkins to its inaugural Top 15 Rising Lawyers List. The list recognizes the achievements of 15 lawyers under 40 years of age across Asia who have consistently delivered high-quality work and set high standards in their respective legal space, while earning accolades from their colleagues, superiors and clients, despite the disruptions of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This accolade acknowledges Simon’s leading work in the financial services and fintech space advising on matters that are often the first-of-their-kind, as well as his wider contributions to help shape regulatory policy in the region through his work with industry organizations such as the Asia Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association and the Fintech Association of Hong Kong.

Asian Legal Business evaluated nominees based on a range of factors including, significant achievements during the pandemic period as well as during their overall career, key clients and client recommendations, third party recognition, and professional qualifications, among others. In particular the winning lawyers were chosen based on both the complexity and breadth of their work across multiple jurisdictions, the significance of their work to the wider region and/ or industry, as well as their ability to demonstrate innovation to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic.

Simon Hawkins said, “I am honored to be included in this inaugural list and I feel very fortunate to be part of an amazing global platform of extremely talented lawyers. I am  thankful to the clients who trust me and my team with their complex and strategically important projects and look forward to continuing to serve them as they drive growth and innovation in financial services across the region."

As a member of Latham’s Financial Institutions Group, Simon serves on a global team advising clients on financial regulations and fintech. He is also Co-Chair of the firm’s Global Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Task Force.
