Impersonators have created emails, instant messages, text messages, and presence on social media, falsely claiming to be from personnel at Latham & Watkins. These emails and messages are financial scams or phishing scams and have taken several forms, including:

  • Details about an unpaid and allegedly overdue invoice, with the target of the fraud asked to immediately remit payment
  • Details about an unclaimed inheritance for the recipient, with the target of the fraud asked to advance fees
  • Details about a financial settlement, with the target of the fraud asked to prepare a marriage license
  • Details about a tax liability, with the target of the fraud asked to make payment or face litigation
  • Details about work-from-home and other employment opportunities, including a request to interview using online chat or text messaging
  • Offers to help people recover money and cryptocurrency that was lost in online scams
  • Links to fake webpages, designed to steal usernames and passwords

Some email and telephone scams are reported to the Solicitors Regulation Authority and details can be found on its Scam Alerts page, for example: https://www.sra.org.uk/consumers/scam-alerts/2023/march/jessica-walker-latham-watkins-london-llp/

Latham & Watkins LLP, Latham & Watkins (London) LLP, our affiliates, and our lawyers have no involvement in these or any other scams. Names of our personnel are being used without our authorization.

If you are the recipient of communication purporting to be from Latham personnel that comes from any email domain other than lw.com, contains unusual content, or was delivered via social media or an online messaging service, please check the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting us directly at SecurityMatters@lw.com.
