Volker Schäfer

Retired Partner

Volker Schäfer retired from the partnership in August 2021. He was a partner in the Frankfurt office of Latham & Watkins. His prior practice focused on complex commercial litigation and international arbitration. He has broad experience representing clients in cross-border disputes, disputes in the financial industry (including regulatory investigations or internal investigations), antitrust civil damages claims, professional liability cases, and post M&A disputes.

At the time of his retirement, Mr. Schäfer was a ranked lawyer for litigation (Chambers Europe Germany 2017). He was also singled out for arbitration (including international arbitration) by The Legal 500 EMEA 2014 and was “recommended” for commercial litigation and liability, as well as for arbitration/mediation by JUVE 2016/2017. Clients described Volker Schäfer as "razor sharp," and say that "He thinks two steps ahead” (Chambers Europe Germany 2017).

Prior to his career in a law firm he was counsel at a major German plant construction company.
