David J. McLean

David McLean retired from the partnership in December 2015. Mr. McLean was a member of the Litigation Department and of the International Arbitration, Employment Law, Securities Litigation and Professional Liability and Insurance Coverage Litigation Practices in the New York office. He has served as the global Chair of the firm’s Training and Career Enhancement Committee and the global Chair of the Recruiting Committee and as former Office Managing Partner of the New Jersey office. In 2002, Mr. McLean helped establish Latham's Brussels office.

Mr. McLean has broad experience in complex commercial litigation. His particular areas of focus include securities, professional liability, internal investigations and complex business disputes, both domestic and international, and he has handled numerous commercial, real estate, securities, banking, employment and corporate control litigations. Mr. McLean has tried approximately 20 cases in federal and state courts and in arbitration, for clients in such diverse industries as finance, pharmaceutical, banking, real estate, insurance, retail, oil and gas, healthcare, aerospace, marine manufacturing, construction, defense and leisure services. 

Mr. McLean served on the ABA’s Standing Committee on Dispute Resolution and as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Bar Association’s Alternative Dispute Resolution section. At the time of his retirement he was a Co-chair of the Advisory Council of the CPR International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution and a member of the Advisory Board of the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution. 

Named a “key individual” by Chambers USA 2013, Mr. McLean is “fêted for his work in complex commercial litigation.” He has received additional countless accolades including being recognized as a leading litigator by Chambers USA for each of the past seven years and Euromoney Benchmark Litigation for 2008, 2009 and 2010. More recently, American Lawyer Media and Martindale-Hubbell™ named Mr. McLean a “2013 Top Rated Lawyer in Labor & Employment.”

Mr. McLean is co-author of the chapter on arbitration in the treatise Commercial Litigation in New York State Courts (4th edition, 2015).
