Latham & Watkins was recognized in three Deal of the Year awards by Proximo at its Europe Deals of the Year ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal. The awards showcase Latham’s status as a go-to firm within the project finance, infrastructure, and energy communities and highlight the market-leading experience Latham has across the energy and infrastructure sector.

The Deals of the Year the firm advised on include:

Europe Renewables Deal of the Year 2023: Latham advised the borrower/sponsor in Finerge’s €2.3 billion syndicated green loan, which featured an innovative structure for renewable energy sector financing: variable amortization repayment mechanics. The financing helped reorganize and simplify a complex financing structure under a single comprehensive debt platform and supports the construction of Finerge’s 1,251w advanced pipeline of renewable energy assets on the Iberian peninsula.

Europe Digital Infrastructure Deal of the Year 2023: Latham advised the lenders’ in German broadband group Deutsche Glasfaser’s €5.75 billion debt financing package. The financing refinances and simplifies Deutsche Glasfaser’s debt and provided capital to support the company’s plan to cover four million German homes with fibre-to-the-home by the end of 2025.

Europe Airport Deal of the Year 2023: Latham advised Alpha Bank, Eurobank, the National Bank of Greece and Piraeus Bank on the €1.31 billion refinancing of Athens International Airport’s capital structure, which included the repayment of its existing European Investment Bank financing, an extension of existing bond loan maturities and the raising of new debt capital. The financing aimed to enhance the company’s value, through the improvement of free cash flow, the maintenance of adequate liquidity to serve AIA’s funding needs and the gradual normalization of distribution of retained earnings.
