Leaders in Tech award honors collaboration with Aumni on innovative venture capital application for lawyers.

Latham & Watkins has been honored as the Start-Up Firm / Emerging Company Law Firm of the Year at the annual Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards presented by Law.com. The award recognizes a law firm that helped clients in the start-up, pre-public, and emerging company space navigate significant legal challenges to reach desired business outcomes. According to Legalweek, its program honors lawyers who “have helped shape the way law is not only practiced today, but will be practiced far into the future.”

In particular, Latham was cited for collaborating with Aumni, an investment analytics company, to develop Aumni for Law Firms, a software tool that tracks venture capital investments and helps lawyers become more efficient. The service combines artificial intelligence and human expertise to extract and structure data buried in dense legal documents, allowing lawyers to answer investment questions with unparalleled speed and offer a more holistic analysis of private market portfolios. Latham will use Aumni for Law Firms to support its diverse startup client base across the firm’s Emerging Companies Practice.

“We’ve been proud to collaborate with Aumni based on our shared commitment to using technology to develop innovative solutions for our startup clients,” said John Chory, a Boston partner and Global Chair of Latham’s Emerging Companies Practice. “Our attorneys can now access key legal and financial data across client portfolios in real time, empowering them to provide insightful and forward-looking advice.”

Ben Potter, a Bay Area partner who serves as Global Chair of Latham’s Technology Industry Group and as Global Vice Chair of the firm’s Emerging Companies Practice, added, “We’re pleased to be a first adopter of this innovative new platform. Like Latham, Aumni team has a strong grasp of the needs of emerging companies and deep connections in the startup community.”
