Ora Fisher Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award

October 8, 2021
Corporate Counsel
Retired Global Vice Chair recognized for transformative legal leadership by ALM’s Corporate Counsel.

Former firm Global Vice Chair Ora Fisher has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from American Lawyer Media’s Corporate Counsel in the annual Women Influence & Power in Law Awards, recognizing her “lasting mark on the profession.”

Fisher retired this year after 30 years at the firm, during which time she built a thriving corporate practice, held numerous leadership positions, and inspired and mentored countless colleagues within Latham and the larger legal community. After graduating from University of Michigan Law School in 1991, she joined Latham — focusing on mergers and acquisitions, public securities offerings, venture financings, and general corporate matters in Latham’s then-new office in San Francisco, and moving to Silicon Valley when that office opened in 1997. Alongside a formidable career as a practitioner, Ora brought her disciplined leadership skills, vision, and unwavering commitment to management roles. She took the helm as Office Managing Partner in Silicon Valley from 2004 to 2009 and guided the office through incredible growth and success. She was first elected to the firm’s Executive Committee in 2009 and served with distinction as Vice Chair of the firm from 2011 to 2021.

In her published profile, Fisher recounted building her corporate practice in the Bay Area and taking on the challenge of leading the Silicon Valley office as Latham seized market share from hometown Valley firms. She also reflected on the lessons of leadership she has learned, particularly the importance of developing committed talent by encouraging colleagues to do their best work while nurturing a collegial and inclusive culture.
