Crain’s New York Business has honored Co-Deputy Office Managing Partner for the New York office Nicole Fanjul as a 2022 Notable Diverse Leader in Law in recognition of her leadership and commitment to community service.

A member of Latham’s Banking Practice, Fanjul represents lenders and corporate borrowers in complex financing transactions, with a focus on syndicated leveraged finance and direct lending. She has advised on the some of the largest acquisition financings in recent years, including representing the lenders in connection with Takeda’s US$46 billion acquisition of Shire — the largest-ever overseas takeover by a Japanese company.

Fanjul has spearheaded numerous initiatives to drive diversity and inclusion, and is an active leader and mentor to colleagues. Among her roles, Fanjul previously served as the Local Leader of the New York office’s Black Lawyers Affinity Group, and as a member of the firm’s Recruiting, Associates, Women Enriching Business, and Training & Career Enhancement (TACE) Committees.

Fanjul also maintains an active pro bono practice, including frequently advising on immigration matters and helping immigrant victims of domestic violence obtain protections and benefits under the Violence Against Women Act. She serves as a board member for the Acceleration Project, and sits on Rye County Day School’s Alumni Executive Board, which encourages philanthropic support and prioritizes efforts relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
