John Manthei, Global Co-Chair of Healthcare & Life Sciences Practice, recognized for leadership in his field.

The National Law Journal (NLJ) has recognized Washington, D.C. partner John Manthei in its annual “White Collar, Regulatory & Compliance Trailblazers” report, which highlights lawyers who have “achieved remarkable successes” in their field of work, according to the NLJ.

Manthei, who is Global Co-Chair of the Healthcare & Life Sciences Practice at Latham and previously served as Majority Counsel for the US House of Representatives’ Committee on Energy and Commerce, was honored for his career accomplishments. Manthei’s practice has produced some of the industry’s highest profile achievements. The NLJ noted his leadership in providing regulatory advocacy to Pacira Pharmaceuticals. His efforts resulted in the FDA rescinding its Warning Letter to Pacira Pharmaceuticals, resulting in improved product labeling for the company. This represented only the third known occasion the FDA has taken such action in its entire history. Additionally, he was also cited for his work on Capitol Hill to amend the Controlled Substances Act regulation of the drug GHB.

Manthei also commented on the rapid innovation in the life sciences industry, telling NLJ, “ The challenge will be to ensure regulators are in a position to deal with, and encourage the innovation. The next 5-10 years will be really exciting.”
